Bakwena tribal authority women aim for healthy living

As the country has began to celebrate the women’s month, the Bakwena tribal authority women, in Hebron near Garankuwa, have mobilised themselves and vowed to live a healthy lifestyle through body exercising and eating nutritious food to prevent themselves suffering from chronic diseases such as heart and high blood pressure.

On Monday, 8 August, the Bakwena women will be joined by the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Gwendoline Ramokgopa in launching the Bakwena "Healthy Lifestyle" programme. The programme aims to improve the well-being of all the Bakwena tribe through body exercising and eating nutritious food.

As an activist of women agendas, the Deputy Minister has also been invited to officially launch the Bakwena Ba Mogopa Development Trust which will mainly cater for empowerment of Bakwena tribal women.

Amongst delegates joining the Deputy Minister will be the mother of the Bakwena tribal authority Chief, Mmakgosi Mamogale.

Prior the start of the event, the Deputy Minister will lead a two kilometer walk from Mangope Highway to Bakwena tribal authority as part of body exercising and healthy lifestyle promotion.

During the event proceedings, the Department of Health will extend, on site, health screening services which will include blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, body mass index and HIV health and Counseling (HCT).
