Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week

The National Archives and Records Service of South Africa will host the annual Archives and Heraldry Awareness Week from the 17 to 21 May 2010.

The archives week is aimed at inculcating an appreciation of our history and heritage among all South Africans in an effort to foster nation building and social cohesion.

Since 1994, archives have played an important role in deepening and strengthening our democratic dispensation, by promoting efficient, accountable and transparent, evidence based governance.

This year the archives week happens on the eve of the biggest sporting event, the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. Hence, the theme is: "Our archives, Our stories: Preserving our soccer heritage".

Members of the public are invited to come and learn more about archival functions and services and most importantly the preservation of South Africa's documentary heritage.
