On 2 December 2011, an anti piracy partnership was formed between the SAPS, various artists against piracy and AIRCO. The launch was attended by the Minister of Police, Mr N Mthethwa, the acting National Police Commissioner, Lt Gen N Mkhwanazi and various other stakeholders.
During the launch various items including pirated DVDs and CDs worth millions of rand were confiscated and later destroyed.
This partnership has grown in strength and received overwhelming community support. The SAPS and its partners are currently exhibiting at the Rand Easter show. Partners include SHOUT, Lead SA, Crime Line, RISA, AIRCO. On Saturday, 14 April 2012, the SAPS will be showcasing at the Arena. The show will include a medal parade, passing out parade of new recruits, parachute jumping, various simulations as well as an event for widows and orphans.
More than 20 Award winning artists have pledged their performances for 1 hour 30 min during the showcase. This will signify that artists sing their best songs during the event. The chairperson of the South African Federation Against Copyright and Theft (SAFACT) will be present at the briefing.
More information on the event will be supplied at a media conference to be addressed by the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen M Petros, Mr M Mbuli with various artists and the Gauteng Provincial Community Police Board Chairperson, Mr A Mashaile.
