Annual Information Society and Development Multi-Stakeholder Forum, Gallagher Estate

“Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Rural Development and Job Creation”

The Minister of Communications, Mr Radhakrishna L Padayachie (Roy), is hosting the Annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Information Society and Development from 31 March to 1 April 2011 at Gallagher Estate Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng. Starting times: Day 1: 10h00 and Day 2: 09h30.

The forum is taking place as a national level follow up to the outcomes of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) which took place in Geneva in 2003 and Tunis in 2005, respectively. South Africa, through the Department of Communications, was a key participant in these events.

This forum serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies, showcase achievements, debate ideas, and share expert knowledge and solutions in striving to accelerate the building of a people-centred, development- oriented, inclusive Information Society.

The two day event will consider the important matter of ICT sector contribution to rural development and job creation. The Minister will outline the elements of the ICT Rural Development Strategic Framework and present

Participants will include: Industry Executives, Government policy makers, academic experts, representatives from State Owned Enterprises, and non governmental organisations, Labour, as well as international guests. The theme for the 2011 Forum is “ICTs for Rural Development and Job creation”.
