Annual Development Partners Consultation Forum

The Deputy Minister of Health Dr Molefi Sefularo will address a gathering of 54 development partners, on the implementation of quality improvement plans for the 18 priority health districts in the country, towards the achievement of the Government's Programme of Action (PoA) goals.

According to the PoA, the Department of Health should commence the implementation of interventions to improve health service delivery in 18 districts by March 2010. Fifteen districts should also be able to produce progress reports with improvement of quality of care. These districts were chosen because of their poor health status and poor access to health services.

The Department of Health is currently preparing a concept paper on the strengths and weaknesses of provincial health districts, with a view of implementing high impact interventions to reduce maternal, neonatal and child morbidity and mortality in South Africa, among other things.

Members of the media are invited to attend the consultation forum 2009, to be opened by Dr Sefularo, at 09h00. This will be followed by a response by development partners, to highlight their areas of technical and financial support. The development partners who are expected to attend include the European Union (EU), United Nations (UN,) World Bank and ambassadors from different European countries as well as the United States of America (USA) and Japan.
