Following the successful 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa will be hosting the fifth International Sport Federation for People with Intellectual Disability (INAS-FID) world football championships from 23 August to 11 September 2010.
The opening game will be played at the Peter Mokaba stadium on 23 August, starting at 12h00.
INAS-FID is the International Sport Federation for people with Intellectual Disabilities. It manages the classification of athletes with an intellectual disability, and is also a member of the International Paralympics Committee, representing intellectual disability.
The games will be played in Limpopo province, with Capricorn and Mopani districts as host municipalities. The host towns include Polokwane, Seshego, Tzaneen, Nkowa-nkowa and Giyani.
The participating 11 countries are: South Africa, Germany, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Portugal, The Netherlands, and France. Apart from Turkey, which arrives on 20 August, the teams arrive on 21 August and depart on 12 September 2010.
Seeing to the successful hosting of the games are Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA), Limpopo provincial government through the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Capricorn and Mopani district municipalities, INAS-FID, and South Africa Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASA-II).
