Learning from each other: youths from eight African countries discuss the relevance of sport for social change and present tools to combine sport activities with life skills training. Youth activists are brought together by the Sport for Social Change Network (SSCN), an initiative supported by the youth development through football programme, Nike and Sport and Recreation South Africa.
On 15 June, several hundred school children from South Africa will train together with the youth activists at Ke Nako Africa within the international football village at Birchwood Hotel in Johannesburg. In the afternoon, there will be a panel discussion on “Empowering youth to use sport to make social change happen”. The press is invited to the event at 15h00. (The best opportunity for press pictures is from 11h00 to 13h00, see programme attached.)
On Youth Day, 16 June, Lesotho national player Kabelo Mosothoane and three players from the Orlando Pirates, one of South Africa’s leading football clubs, will participate in football-related youth education activities with another several hundred school children. In the morning, the first session of the first African Youth Sport Forum by the SSCN will take place. The press is invited to these events from 11H00.
Ke Nako Africa takes place within the international football village hosted by the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Johannesburg. During the World Cup, the initiative will present African and international actors from politics, sport, business and culture with an exciting exhibition and an ambitious programme, including panel discussions, cultural events and youth activities. Ke Nako Africa is an initiative by Sport and Recreation South Africa, a government department, together with several partners.
