Acting President Motlanthe to deliver keynote address at the 50th anniversary of Human Rights Day celebrations in Sharpeville

The acting President of the Republic of South Africa Kgalema Motlanthe will, on Sunday, 21 March 2010 deliver a keynote address at the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Human Rights Day Celebrations in Sharpeville, Cricket Pitch near George Thebe Stadium, Vereeniging.

The 50th anniversary of Human Rights Day Celebrations this year takes place under the theme “Working together we can do more to protect human rights”. Through this day, we celebrate victory over the apartheid system and reinforce our commitment to human rights.

Acting President will be accompanied by the Ministers of Arts and Culture, Ms Lulama Xingwana, Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Jeff Radebe and other senior government officials. Members of the media are invited to attend the event as follows:

Part one:
* Catholic Church: Interdenominational service
Time: 06h00 to 09h30

Part two:
* Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct: Memorial session
Time: 09h30: Acting President will lead a wreath-laying ceremony.

Part three:
* Main event
Time: 11h00
Venue: Sharpeville Cricket Pitch, near George Thebe Stadium
