Members of the media, who have applied for accreditation for the forthcoming African Union (AU)-UNECA Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Ministerial Conference which will be hosted by South Africa in Durban (ICC) from 3-7 September 2012 are invited to collect their accreditation.
It is the 2nd Conference of African Ministers responsible for civil registration to tackle the challenges caused by the absence of reliable data for births, deaths, marriage and divorce on the continent, a status which has led to a phenomenon known as the “Scandal of Invisibility”. It refers to a state in which some people are born and die without leaving a trace in any legal record or official statistic, therefore, rendering them unseen and uncountable.
300 delegates will gather in South Africa to address these challenges being faced in Africa.
