2011 Sipho Mutsi Games

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in collaboration with the Lejweleputswa District and Matjhabeng Local Municipality will be hosting the Provincial Sipho Mutsi Games for the second year in Odendaalsrus. The Games are scheduled to take place from the 9th to the 11th December 2011.

The Games are in their second year having been conceptualised in 2010 by MEC Dan Kgothule. Mr Kgothule deemed it fit that an 18 year old activist and leader of the Congress of South African Students (COSAS), Sipho Mutsi, who died in police custody during interrogation at the Odendaalsrus prison, should be honoured by the Free State through sport.

The inaugural Games were played in Odendaalsrus in 2010. The Games are now growing into the biggest sport event in the Province played from Sipho Mutsi Town School Leagues to the provincial level.

All four Districts and Metro Municipalities will converge in Odendaalsrus from the 09th to the 11th December to compete in 3 different sporting codes for U/13 and U/16 age groups.
