The Limpopo Department of Agriculture will once again use the month of August to bestow accolades to female farmers through the annual Female Farmer of the Year competition. The objective of the awards is to empower women in agriculture by recognising their contribution and increasing visibility in the sector.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual competition which has been instrumental in transforming the sector and introducing women to commercial farming. This year's event will be held on Saturday 22 August 2009, in Bolivia Lodge, Polokwane at 18h00.
The award ceremony is a culmination of district events which were held during the first two weeks of August in the five districts of Limpopo.
Winners will be awarded in five categories namely; top producer for export markets, top producer for national markets, top producer for informal markets, top producer for household use backyard gardens and top producer for household use communal gardens.
The provincial winners will represent Limpopo in the national finals scheduled for 29 August 2009 in Bloemfontein.
