2009 OR Tambo Games

Theme: "Celebrating the Spirit of OR Tambo through Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation"

The OR Tambo Games are a multi-coded sport tournament hosted by the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in partnership with the Lejweleputswa District Municipality. The games are dedicated to the stalwart of the anti-apartheid liberation struggle, a diplomat and an international icon, Mr Oliver Reginald Tambo. May his gallant life continue to serve as an inspiration to future generations!

This multi coded sport tournament will be held from 2 to 4 October 2009, in Matjhabeng, Welkom. Athletes from across the Free State will participate in a number of sporting codes to showcase their talent and win medals for their districts.

Sport code: Netball: Able Bodied Female
Venue: Goldenpark School (Bronville, Welkom)

Sport code: Basketball: Able Bodied Male
Venue: Kutlwanong Stadium (Odendaalsrus)

Sport code: Disabled Male and Female
Venue: Bronville Community Centre (Welkom)

Sport code: Volleyball Able Bodied (Male and Female)
Venue: Kopanong Outdoor Sport Centre (Welkom)

Sport code: Table Tennis: Disable and able Bodied (Male and Female)
Venue: Thabong Community Centre

Sport code: Rugby Able Bodied (Male and Female)
Venue: Bronville Stadium (Welkom)

The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr Dan Kgothule, calls upon the communities of the Free State and Lejweleputswa District particularly to support the games and athletes who will be participating in these games. Let the best team win.
