As part of our historic ambition to break the record for the most amount of people to sing happy birthday to a single individual, the Department of Basic Education is overwhelmed by the readiness of its learners.
The Department of Basic Education will tomorrow unleash 12.5 million learners to sing a specially recorded happy birthday Tata song. These learners will simultaneously sing the song at exactly 08h00 country wide accompanied by virtually all television private, public and community radio stations.
Last year 8 million learners sang the song with the support of all media houses. This year we aim to reach new heights.
The Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga will tomorrow, 18 July 2012 commemorate International Mandela Day in the former President's homeland of the Eastern Cape.
The Minister will visit two schools that are part of the 94+ Schools Project for Madiba in Engcobo and Mthatha. The Minister will begin her day with a visit to Mandela Park Primary in Mthatha from 07h30 to 10h30, where the Minister will contribute to the singing of the happy birthday Tata song at 08h00.
