The chairperson of the portfolio committee on Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Maggie Sotyu, will lead the initiatives of the Departments of Water and Environmental Affairs on a range of activities in Botshabelo community in the Free State in celebration of Mandela Day.
The activities will take place under the theme, ‘67 Minutes-Taking Care of My Environment,’ and is in response to the call for South Africans to spend 67 minutes of their time doing something that would make a difference in communities.
The activities will consist of a clean up campaign in Botshabelo en route to a waste recycling plant funded by the Department of Environment Affairs’ Social Responsibility Policy and Projects (SRPP), where a demonstration on the processing of waste will take place.
This will be followed by a tree planting segment at a day care centre for the disabled. Thereafter officials will depart to households and raise awareness around water conservation.
