‘67 Minutes-Taking Care Of My Environment,’ in celebration of Mandela Day

The chairperson of the portfolio committee on Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Maggie Sotyu, will lead the initiatives of the Departments of Water and Environmental Affairs on a range of activities in Botshabelo community in the Free State in celebration of Mandela Day.

The activities will take place under the theme, ‘67 Minutes-Taking Care of My Environment,’ and is in response to the call for South Africans to spend 67 minutes of their time doing something that would make a difference in communities.

The activities will consist of a clean up campaign in Botshabelo en route to a waste recycling plant funded by the Department of Environment Affairs’ Social Responsibility Policy and Projects (SRPP), where a demonstration on the processing of waste will take place.

This will be followed by a tree planting segment at a day care centre for the disabled. Thereafter officials will depart to households and raise awareness around water conservation.
