MEC Nqatha is outraged by the brutal shooting of ward councillor
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Xolile Nqatha, is deeply outraged and appalled by brutal shooting of a ward councillor in Gqeberha yesterday (20 June 2026).
The horrific shooting incident occurred at the councillor's office in Zwide, Gqeberha last night (20 June 2026). According to SAPS, two unknown armed male suspects stormed the office while a meeting consisting of roughly 10 people was actively underway. It is further said that the suspects held the vic-tims at gunpoint, and ordering everyone present to hand over their cell-phones. One of the suspects fired upon a 45-year-old man, inflicting multiple gunshot wounds, before fleeing the scene. The deceased sustained several gunshot wounds and was declared deceased on the scene.
MEC Nqatha has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of the word council-lor and calls on Police to work hard to ensure that the suspects responsible for this barbaric act are brought to book. The MEC also conveys his heartfelt con-dolences to the grieving family, wishing them strength during this difficult time.
