MEC Sikhumbuzo Kholwane on department's clean audit

Full term clean audit slate for Department of Finance

Mpumalanga’s Department of Finance has attained its fifth successive clean audit from the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) for the financial year ended 31 March 2014.

The audit outcome means the department has produced and submitted the financial statements that were free from material misstatements. It is a statement that gives assurance that the department has accounted for R251.752 million which was spent on various budget items during the 2013/14 financial year.

MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Sikhumbuzo Kholwane, congratulated the officials for continuing to lead the government’s efforts to improve accountability but caution that such does not mean anything if the results are not replicated in the institutions that are supported by Provincial Treasury.

“The clean audit outcome of the department should also translate to service delivery, and in this case the Provincial Treasury targets will relate to good corporate governance in all public institutions in the province,” said MEC Kholwane.

He said accountability-inclined governance enhances the credibility of the government and lead to acceptance of the work which the department performs on behalf of the citizens of Mpumalanga.
