The Presidency children’s website to be launched

19 March 2009

The Minister in The Presidency, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will, on Monday,
23 March 2009, launch the Presidency children’s website.

Twenty-four schoolchildren have been invited to the Union Buildings for the
launch from schools around Gauteng and surrounding areas.

The children will have an informal meeting with the Minister in her office
where they will candidly chat with her and she will explain the work of the
Presidency. Computers will be set up on the day where the children will have
the opportunity to experiment and play around with the website.

The aim of the website is not only to educate children about the Presidency
and the government of South Africa but also to encourage children to learn how
to use the internet.

The target audience for this website is 6 to 13 years old. The website was
developed to speak to children of this age group directly.

Planning and development of the website has been going on for the past year
and was designed in Flash to provide an animated and interactive experience for
the end user.

Furthermore, the content was developed in consultation with the Department
of Education to ensure that it is aligned to the school curriculum and was
edited by a children’s language editor to ensure that the content is
comprehensible to the target audience

We have now reached the stage where our product is ready to be launched to
the public.
