The Gauteng Premier, Mbhazima Shilowa, has expressed shock and sorrow at the
news of the untimely death of Lebo Mathosa, the well loved and gifted South
African musician.

"The government and the people of Gauteng are sad at the tragic loss of
Mathosa at such a young age. In her short life Mathosa had grown into an icon
and the country was expecting to experience more from her talent as a musician,
actor and cultural activist.

"Through her inspiring ability, commitment and unrelenting quest for
excellence, Mathosa had put South Africa on the international map as a country
endowed with creative talent on par with the rest of the world.

"We will continue to hear her exciting and sensational voice on our airwaves
but we will never see her live performances again.

"Her death in a road accident again reminds us to do everything we can to
improve road safety in our province. The government is prepared to put in place
all the necessary measures but every individual must make it his or her duty
uphold road safety," said Shilowa.
