Affairs, Mtholephi Mthimkhulu, programme for 16 April 2009: 150 bursaries and
ground breaking agriculture development desk
15 April 2009
The KZN MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, Mtholephi Mthimkhulu,
will embark on the two huge programmes aimed at developing the agricultural
industry for the purposes of food security tomorrow.
Bursaries
Following a realisation that many poor communities in the province do not
have access to quality education, MEC Mthimkhulu established a bursary
programme that is dedicated at contributing towards the upliftment of the lives
of our people.
The project targets, primarily, those individuals who wish to study subjects
related to the agricultural sector. This project will assist with regards to
engineers and other technical expertise within the agricultural and
environmental sectors.
While the main target is external people, the programme also assists willing
employees to improve themselves by furthering their education.
Mthimkhulu will officially award more than 150 bursaries to qualifying
students.
The ceremony will take place as follows:
Date: 16 April 2009
Time: 09h00
Venue: Cedara College, Pietermaritzburg [Department's headquarters]
This initiative is in line with the declaration by The Freedom Charter that
"The doors of learning and culture shall be opened."
Agriculture development desk
As the guiding principle of our democracy clearly declares that "The land
shall be shared by those who work on it and, among others, the people shall
share in the country's wealth". Agriculture Development Desk (ADD) seeks to
ensure that all small scale farmers are properly developed to the level of
their commercial counter parts.
Through this programme, we will also increase food security of our country
at large thereby contributing in the reduction of high food prices. The ADD has
been developed in partnership with all organised agriculture organisations.
This launch will be linked with the official handover of 3,5 million rand
agricultural projects at Ndwedwe Municipality.
Details:
Date: 16 April 2009
Time: 11h00
Venue: Ezimangeni sports ground, Emsunduze, Ndwedwe
Mthimkhulu is launching this project where people are to draw a direct link
between his department's units with the real situations under which our people
find themselves.
