The commission is aware of the dispute on the Makhombo Trust i.e. between
the Mjejane Trust and Umlimi (strategic partners). We have visited the farms
and are engaging with both the trustees and Umlimi with the view to resolve the
impasse.
The current situation between Umlimi and the community is based on the
non-performance of Umlimi to develop the farms to acceptable levels. It should
be noted that no community grants have been spent on this projects. Our
position is that we are not going to allow any running down of farms and
disruption in at the expense of the claimantâs community. We however will
ensure timeous intervention to avoid any social disruptions. We had meeting
with all parties on 7 April 2009 at Hectorspruit where a process already agreed
upon would be finalised and pave the way forward.
