urged

24 April 2007

Medical practitioners and employees in Pretoria and surrounding areas with
outstanding claims for Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases
(COIDA) should take advantage of the COIDA services Imbizo currently unfolding
in Pretoria, the labour department has urged.

The Imbizo, which runs until 30 April 2007, is the department's initiative
to settle all outstanding payments to healthcare professionals and employees.
They also seek to answer all queries related to the COIDA. Labour spokesperson,
Zolisa Sigabi, says her department has put all systems in place to cope with
the high number of claims expected.

"Our staff at the Compensation Fund will be working extended hours including
on weekends and public holidays to deal with the huge number of claims that
have already been received. The Imbizo will also afford us the opportunity to
address the backlog that has always been an Achilles heel to us. We call upon
workers, especially those with claims that have been outstanding for more than
three months to exploit this occasion," Sigabi added.

Payments of more than R5 million had already been made yesterday, the third
day of the Imbizo. The Imbizo is held at the Compensation House in
Pretoria.
