Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) to have a new head

2 February 2007

The Unemployment Insurance Fund will soon have a new head. This is a sequel
to an involved process, which culminated in interviews with potential
candidates on Monday, 29 January, this week.

The interviews were chaired by Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana in
Pretoria.

In order to enhance and maintain stability and production growth within the
Fund, the Minister has indicated that he will soon announce the appointment of
the new Unemployment Insurance Commissioner.

The UIF is one of Government's fundamental structures developed
strategically to contribute towards poverty alleviation and job creation, hence
sound and proactive management operations are always a necessity.

The Fund recently reached an important milestone in its entire history when
it received an unqualified audit report from the office of the Auditor-General.
The fund is in the black as far as its finances are concerned with its
financial assets now topping the R17 billion mark.

The appointment of the new Commissioner is expected to enhance the
department's efforts towards improved service delivery and building a Fund that
is more self sustaining and more credible to its clientele and
stakeholders.

The new commissioner will take over from the incumbent who has been
operating in an acting capacity.
