Eradication of Slums Conference, 19 to 21 May

Minister of Housing Lindiwe Sisulu in partnership with the Slum Dwellers
Initiative (SDI) will host a Slum Eradication Conference in Cape Town, from 19
to 21 May 2006. The purpose of the conference is to examine rapid urbanisation
and its impact on communities, cities, economies and policies.

Under the theme; ‘Preparing for Vancouver: Government-Slum Dweller
Partnership to eradicate slums’, the conference will also look at ways of
presenting a united front at the Vancouver World Urban Forum to be held later
this year in Canada.

Present at the conference will be representatives from different
organisations for the homeless people across the world under the body SDI.
African ministers from Ghana, Uganda, Malawi, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe
and all the relevant mayors of South Africa will also be attend the
conference.
