The provincial Department of Health has learnt with shock of the sudden and
tragic death of 16-year-old Monde Nkonyeni, the second son of KwaZulu-Natal
Health MEC Mrs Peggy Nkonyeni. Monde passed away after the car that he and his
two siblings, Steve and Sithabile, were travelling in collided with a bakkie
near Port Shepstone Toll Plaza this morning.
They were on their way to school when the accident took place. Monde was
airlifted to hospital where he died. Steve and Sithabile were admitted at Port
Shepstone hospital and Hibiscus Hospital in Port Shepstone respectively, and
they are both in a stable condition.
Head of Department, Dr Busi Nyembezi, has passed her deepest and heartfelt
condolences to the Nkonyeni family for their loss. This is MEC Nkonyeni's
second child to pass away under tragic circumstances. She lost her daughter in
the 90s during the height of violence that ravaged the province.
May his soul rest in peace.
