hold a graduation ceremony for the second group of nurses
10 October 2006
The KZN Department of Health will on Tuesday, 10 October hold a graduation
ceremony for the second group of nurses who have completed various
nurse-training programmes which were offered by the provincial Department of
Health under the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing.
Provincial Health MEC Mrs Peggy Nkonyeni will deliver the keynote address at
the graduation.
The first group graduated last month at the University of Zululand. The
college was formed last year after the amalgamation of a number of state
nursing colleges that were offering nurse education. The KwaZulu-Natal College
of Nursing comprises 11 campuses, 4 campuses in the northern half of the
province and 7 in the southern half of the province. The college has 14
sub-campuses, 11 in the northern half of the province and 3 in the southern
half of the province.
"In the State of the Nation Address at the beginning of this year our
honourable President Thabo Mbeki talked of the further expansion of health
infrastructure and the re-opening of nursing colleges to increase the number of
health professionals. The province of KZN never closed its nursing colleges
hence this graduation of 1 500 nurses which are part of the 2 900 regiment that
we are producing this year," says the MEC.
The media is invited to attend and report on this historic inaugural
graduation ceremony.
