KwaZulu-Natal to commemorate World AIDS Day, 1 Dec

"Stop HIV and AIDS Keep the Promise"

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) will join the rest of the world in commemorating World
AIDS Day on 1 December this year under the theme - "Stop HIV and AIDS, Keep the
Promise." The Provincial event will be held at Umzinto Sports Stadium in
Umzinto. This event will form a continuation of the initiative of taking
parliament to the people, as the provincial parliament will be meeting in this
area.

As part of the build-up to World AIDS Day, the Cabinet and other leaders of
civil society will be visiting homes and families affected by HIV and AIDS.
Food parcels, 200 toys for children and other gifts will be distributed to more
than 60 needy families, especially child-headed households.

KZN Premier, Dr Sibusiso Ndebele, and the Members of the Executive Council
(MECs), together with their administrative heads, will be divided into three
teams and will visit homes of child-headed families, including institutions for
home based care in the Ugu District. Three municipalities will be visited on
the day, that is, Vulamehlo, Umdoni and Umzumbe, which have been targeted on
the basis of being the worst affected by the HIV and AIDS pandemic. These areas
are also the most underprivileged in terms of social welfare resources.

The Premier together with the MECs will put on their overalls and do garden
work, and others will wear aprons and take care of the sick when they visit
home-based care institutions.

The three teams have been divided as follows:

Team 1

KZN Premier, Dr Sibusiso Ndebele will head the team to Vulamehlo
Municipality, and he will be accompanied by the KZN MEC for Health, Mrs Peggy
Nkonyeni as well as the MEC for Social Welfare, Dr Meshack Radebe as well as
mayors and traditional leaders

Team 2

The team will be headed by KZN MEC for Housing and Local Government, Mr Mike
Mabuyakhulu to Mdoni, and he will be accompanied by the MEC for Public Works,
Ms Lydia Johnson, Education MEC Ms Ina Cronje, and Ms Weziwe Thusi, MEC
for
Arts and Culture

Team 3

KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Bheki Cele will lead
Team 3 to Mzumbe, and he will be accompanied by the MEC for Sports and
Recreation, Mr Amichand Rajbansi as well as MEC for Economic Development and
Finance, Dr Zweli Mkhize. The meeting point for the morning session will be at
the Umzinto Stadium at 08h30.

Transport is available to transport media to the event and will leave
outside the Durban Playhouse at 07h30.Transport will also be available from the
stadium for journalists who will be covering the visits. The teams will then
return to the stadium for World AIDS Day official event.
