South Africa to host Southern African Development Community
(SADC) Summit on Zimbabwe, Pretoria

Pretoria: South African President and Chairperson of SADC, President Kgalema
Motlanthe will host the Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government to be held
on Monday, 26 January 2009, in Pretoria to discuss the situation in
Zimbabwe.

The Summit is convened primarily to discuss the implementation of the
Zimbabwean Global Political Agreement, signed in 2008 between ZANU-PF and the
two MDC formations and facilitated by former President Thabo Mbeki as the SADC
Facilitator Thabo Mbeki on the Zimbabwean dialogue.

The convening of the Monday Summit follows a decision of the meeting held in
Harare, Zimbabwe on Monday, 19 January, attended by President Kgalema
Motlanthe, President Armando Guebuza as Deputy Chairperson of the SADC Organ on
Politics, Defence and Security, the SADC Facilitator former President Thabo
Mbeki, with President Robert Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangarai and Arthur
Mutambara.

The Summit of Heads of State and Government is expected to be attended by
all member-states of SADC as well as leaders of the two MDC formations.
