Dube

The Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Kgaogelo Lekgoro, welcomes the
successful prosecution and conviction of Sipho Dube. "We welcome the conviction
in the hope that other serial killers and criminals will see what awaits them
if they terrorise communities. Although it will not bring the children back,
the conviction and sentencing of this incorrigible monster will restore the
confidence of communities in government's efforts to fight crime, child abuse,
women abuse and all forms of criminal activities against our communities. We
also welcome the sentence handed down by the judge as it affirms government's
efforts to eradicate the brutal abuse of women and children.
We hope that through time the families of the victims will heal, noting
that it is not easy for any parent or community to lose a child. We believe
that Sipho Dube got what he deserved and trust that communities feel the same.
We also call upon our communities to take note of the whereabouts of their
children at all times, because it may help to curb the continuing abuse and
abduction of our children.
Sipho Dube robbed the nation of a future collective of leaders. These
children will never walk the road carved out for them. Perhaps among the
brutally murdered children, one would have been a doctor, a president or a
virologist working on a cure for Aids. We congratulate our police for the
sterling work that helped to bring this criminal to book. Their investigations
contributed immensely to the successful prosecution of a monstrosity that was
hell bent on destroying our society. It shows that had the criminal not been
arrested, he would have continued with his evil deeds.
We appreciate the efforts of the police and would like to encourage them to
keep up the good work. We know that we seldom congratulate our police officers
when they do well and always criticise when they make mistakes. We hope that
this conviction will inspire communities to work closely with the police to
fight crime and remove the likes of Sipho Dube from society.
We also thank communities and everybody who provided leads to help to catch
him. This is a clear demonstration of successful community partnerships with
the government and law enforcement agencies. The conviction of this brutal
criminal will save and guarantee the protection of many children who would have
been victims," said Lekgoro.
