Court Garankuwa
10 October 2006
A court orderly was stabbed inside the court building yesterday by an
accused, while leading him to court for a court hearing. The court orderly
unfortunately died on the way to hospital. Court officials at Magistrate's
Court Odi are so traumatised that they decided not to work today and have
demanded that the department deals with the situation at the court as a matter
of urgency. The department has undertaken the following resolution to address
this unfortunate incident:
* more security personnel have been deployed at the court in addition to the
two security officials at the court
* human resource has deployed a Social Worker for trauma counselling
* officials working in the vicinity where the incident occurred have been moved
to another location
* a high-level delegation from the national office has been sent to the court
to investigate
* the Justice Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster is going to have an
urgent meeting to address security problems within the justice system.
