J Thibedi on Women’s Month and finding F Rasuge’s remains

North West MEC urges women during “Women’s Month” to intensify
the campaign and help police find the remains of North West policewoman,
Constable Francis Rasuge, who was murdered almost two years ago on 27 August
2004

Jerry Thibedi, North West MEC for Transport, Roads and Community Safety, has
called on communities to “break the silence” and give police information that
could lead to the body of murdered North West policewoman, Constable Francis
Rasuge.

“It has been almost two years. Someone out there must know where the body of
27 years of age Rasuge is. Why then do you remain silent? Refuse to co-operate
with evil…non-co-operation with evil is just as good as co-operating with the
good. So please speak out!”

Addressing the “Provincial woman driver” of the year gala dinner in
celebration of “Women’s Month” activities of the department in Phokeng,
Rustenburg, on Sunday, Thibedi said if Rasuge’s body was to be found “all of us
especially women of our country” should be the ones to say:

“We have contributed to ensure that the body of Rasuge is found.” Rasuge,
who disappeared on 27 August 2004, was stationed at Temba Police Station
(Community Service Centre) near Hammanskraal. Though her former boyfriend,
William Nkuna, was convicted of murder, and is currently serving a life
sentence, Rasuge’s body has not been found.

“We cannot allow criminals to hold us under siege and to go on rampage and
murder law enforcement officers,” Thibedi warned. He praised and described as
“commendable” the role played by women especially the African National Congress
Women’s League (ANCWL) when they persuaded the State to reinstate the murder
case against Nkuna when the case was at one stage struck off the roll by a
magistrate.

“I want to urge all our women and those in the ANCWL, to work even harder
with police to find Rasuge’s body. Police alone will never find that body
unless the community co-operate and give information,” Thibedi said.

“If Rasuge’s body can be found, I will say to Nkuna ‘You will reap what you
sow.’ Truth crash for ever on earth will raise again. Nothing can be kept
secret forever. One day the truth will come out,” Thibedi said.
