The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission (IEC), Mr
Mosotho Moepya, said in Pretoria today, 29 November, the African National
Congress won five of the contested wards, the Democratic Alliance two and an
independent candidate one in the municipal ward by-elections which took place
yesterday.
Voter turnout varied between 39,79% and 8,58% with an average of 21,97%. In
Gauteng, the new councillor in Ward 59 in TSH - Tshwane Metro, Pretoria, is
Gertruida Magdalena Erasmus of the Democratic Alliance.
In Kwazulu-Natal, the new councillor in Ward 2 in uMhlathuze Municipality,
Richards Bay, â KZN282 is Ahamed Shaik Dawood of the African National
Congress.
In the six Mpumalanga by-elections, the African National Congress won four
wards, the Democratic Alliance and the independent candidate each won one
ward.
* Ward 22 in Govan Mbeki Municipality, Highveld Ridge â MP307 went to Zodwa
Linah Sethole; Ward 1 in Steve Tshwete Municipality, Middelburg â MP313 went to
Kweba Nellah Monareng; Ward 7 in Steve Tshwete Municipality, Middelburg â MP313
went to Msanabo Frans Mahlangu while Ward 24 in Steve Tshwete Municipality
Middelburg â MP313 went to Gloria Maseko. All these councillors represent the
African National Congress.
* Ward 15 in Steve Tshwete Municipality, Middelburg â MP313, was won by
Hendrik Frederick Niemann of the Democratic Alliance and Ward 20 in
Bushbuckridge Municipality, Bushbuckridge â MP325 went to Petrus Albert Khoza
an independent candidate.
