The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission
(IEC), Mr Norman Du Plessis, said in Pretoria today (11 August) that the
African National Congress (ANC) has won six out of the seven wards contested in
the municipal ward by-elections of 10 August 2006. The remaining ward went to
the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
Voter turnout varied between 15,76 percent and 43,84 percent with an average
of 30,68 percent.
The new African National Congress councillors are:
⢠Edward Molutsi Molutsi in ward 12 in FS185 â Nala {Bothaville], Free
State
⢠Thulani Emmanuel Gangile in ward 19 in ETH â eThekwini [Durban Metro],
KwaZulu-Natal
⢠Tolotsana Alfred Moekoa in ward 17 in MP307 â Govan Mbeki [Highveld Ridge],
Mpumalanga
⢠Nomvula Julia Nkambule in ward 2 in MP313 â Steve Tshwete [Middelburg],
Mpumalanga
⢠Thabiso Barend Mono in ward 16 in NW402 â Potchefstroom [Potchefstroom],
North West and
⢠Jack Mweninjawa in ward 4 in NC092 â Dikgatlong [Barkley West], Northern
Cape.
Mkhethi Petros Khanyile of the Inkatha Freedom Party is the new councillor
in ward 7 in KZ234 â Umtshezi [Estcourt], KwaZulu-Natal.
