The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission
(IEC), Mosotho Moepya, said today (24 July) that municipal ward by-elections
will take place in Limpopo and the Western Cape on Wednesday, 25 July 2007.

A total of 10 candidates will contest three vacant wards. One is an
independent candidate while the other nine represent seven political
parties.

Two by-elections will take place in Limpopo:

Ward 21 in Greater Giyani - LIM331 will be contested by Gawula Freddie
Maluleke, an independent candidate, Mbhazima Robert Maluleke of the African
Christian Democratic Party and Zama Rhuel Maswanganyi of the African National
Congress; while ward 23 in Makhuduthamaga (Ngwaritsi) � LIM473 will be
contested by Mohube Michael Ntobeng of the African National Congress, Peter
Morewane Maripane of the Azanian People's Organisation, Maditaba Esther Molapo
of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania and Kutullo Fridah Nkgudi of the
United Independent Front.

In the Western Cape, ward 2 in Mossel Bay � WC043 will be contested by Sizwe
Andrew Maphisa of the African National Congress, Julia Siyoko of the
Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa and Johanna Magdalena Cerff of
the Independent Democrats.

Voting stations will be open from 07h00 to 21h00. A total of 11 245 voters
are registered in the three wards (10 voting districts) where by-elections will
be taking place.

at http://www.elections.org.za.
