Press conference to announce the licensing of new commercial
radio stations in the secondary markets for the provinces of Limpopo,
Mpumalanga and the North West

Johannesburg: The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa
(Icasa) hereby invites you to the awarding of broadcasting licences to the
successful bidders for the Commercial Sound Broadcasting category in the
Secondary Market.

The announcement follows hearings that were held in August 2006 for the
provinces of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the North West. A total of 11 applications
were received from three provinces, and no application was received for the
Northern Cape.

Mpumalanga
1. M-Power Radio (Pty) Ltd
2. Mpumalanga Radio Consortium
3. Evening Star (Pty) Ltd

North-West
1. Platinum FM (Pty) Ltd
2. North-West Consortium
3. Yired (Pty) Ltd

It is Icasa’s view that the licensing of new commercial radio broadcasters
for the three provinces will contribute to economic growth, and promote the
diversity of opinion, information and entertainment.
