Independent Communications Authority on amendment of broadcasting
service licence

Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA)
amends Regulation 1 of the Party Election Broadcast, Political Advertisements,
and the equitable treatment of political parties by broadcasting service
licensees and related matters regulations

The ICASA hereby gives a notice of its intention to amend Regulation 1 of
the Party Election Broadcast, Political Advertisements, the equitable treatment
of Political parties by Broadcasting Service Licensees and related matters
regulations, Government Gazette No 31602 of 14 November 2008.

In particular, the amendment seeks to substitute the definition of election
broadcast period to mean “the period within which party election broadcasts may
be transmitted; such period commencing 120 hours after the allotment of time
slots by ICASA and ending 48 hours before polling commences.”

Interested parties are requested to submit their comments on the proposed
definition by 17 February of 2009. Comments should be marked for the attention
