Press Conference to launch Public Awareness Campaign on Mobile
Number Portability

30 October 2006

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa invites the media
and the public to a joint Press Conference to be held with mobile operators
Vodacom, MTN and Cell C to launch a public awareness campaign with respect to
the implementation of Mobile Number Portability.

Mobile Number Portability – the ability of cell-phone subscribers to switch
from one mobile operator to another without losing their cell-phone numbers –
is set to become effective as from 10 November 2006.

The three mobile operators committed themselves to 10 November 2006 as the
date for the implementation of Mobile Number Portability. ICASA postponed the
launch of the project twice, in order to allow the three mobile operators time
to effect a seamless porting arrangement to all cell-phone subscribers. As a
build-up to the launch date of 10 November 2006, ICASA is embarking on a public
awareness campaign about mobile number portability.

Date: Wednesday, 1 November 2006
