nominations to the Board of .za Domain Name Authority

The Minister of Communications, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri has opened
invitations for nominations of directors to serve on the board of the .za
Domain Name Authority.
The invitation, carried in Government Gazette Number 30000 on the Friday, 22
June 2007, is made in terms of Section 62 (2) (b) of the Electronic
Communications and Transactions Act (ECT Act), 2002 (Act No 25 of 2005). In
terms of the Act, the Minister of Communications has the power to invite
nominations from members of the public to the Board of Directors of .za Domain
Name Authority. The Authority was established in terms of Chapter ten of the
ECT Act for the purpose of assuming responsibility for the .za Domain Name
Space.
The appointment of the board will take into cognisance various sectors of
stakeholders such as existing Domain Name community, academic and legal sector,
science, technology and engineering sectors, internet user community, culture
and language and public sector.
Procedures for nominations can also be found on https://www.doc.gov.za. The closing date is Friday,
13 July 2007.
The Minister has appointed Dr Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane (Chairperson), Mr
Mike Lawrie, Ms Zodwa Manase, Mr Allan Cawood and Mr Solomon Ngubane to serve
on the Independent Selection Panel to recommend nine names of individuals to be
appointed to the board. The Minister must appoint the Chairperson of the Board
from among the names recommended by the panel.
