"In education we are one and we stand for our children!" This was the
message of KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Ina Cronjé on Monday, 13 February, when
she handed over 77 classrooms to principals and learners of 26 schools.
The classrooms have been built in the fast track programme that was
introduced by the MEC last year in an attempt to expedite the building of
classrooms in the province. Emerging contractors were given the task to built
661 classrooms in addition to the normal infrastructure programme. By the end
of the 2005/06 financial year 1650 classrooms will have been built, should
everything goes according to plan.
Speaking at the handover function held at the deep rural Sihlambo School in
Ndaka - Ladysmith region - MEC Cronjé said that learners and school communities
should stand together for the sake of the children.
She emphasised the importance of parents' support in the children's
education both at school and at home. "I am deeply touched by the commitment of
our parents to education."
"The fact that we now have enough classrooms for our children will certainly
make a difference in their lives," Principal of Bhande High School
commented.
