10 October 2007
The Gauteng Department of Education will on Friday, 12 October 2007 host the
provincial Teacher Awards in recognition and acknowledgment of excellence in
educators in the province.
This event will prove once again that excellence is still prevalent amongst
educators. The National Teacher Awards (NTA) is one of the ways in which the
Department of Education acknowledges and encourages dedicated and caring
educators in their efforts to develop each learner as a citizen of a democratic
non-racial and non-sexist school.
The Teacher Awards in Gauteng is also driven by its vision of a smart
service delivery of quality public education which promotes a dynamic
citizenship for socio-economic growth and development in Gauteng and South
Africa.
The objectives of the NTA are as follow:
* focus public attention on the positive aspects of education, thereby
raising the public image of the teaching profession
* recognise and promote excellence in teaching performance
* honour dedicated, creative and effective teachers and schools
* encourage best practice in schools
* afford South Africans the opportunity to publicly say thank you to
outstanding teams or individual teachers in schools.
