Algiers, Algeria: South Africa's Sport and Recreation Deputy Minister, Gert
Oosthuizen, arrived in Algiers, yesterday to support Team South Africa that is
in Algeria for the 9th All Africa Games. Oosthuizen's visit to Algeria follows
that of his Minister, Makhenkesi Stofile, who was in Algeria from 9 to 15 July
2007, before leaving for Dubai for other equally important official
engagements.
On arrival, Oosthuizen commended the Algerian Government for taking security
precautions for the Games and engaging in visible policing.
Oosthuizen is pleased by Team South Africa's impressive performance and has
no doubt that come closing day, South Africa will be among the top three
countries on the podium.
His wish, Oosthuizen said, is "to see this year's All Africa Games
contributing immensely to the unity and solidarity of Africans, especially that
the continent will be hosting the 2010 Fifa World Cup."
Oosthuizen will be in Algeria until the end of the Games, departing to South
Africa on 24 July 2007.
