Public Service and Administration Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi will
meet with her counterparts from Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo
(DRC), Ethiopia and Mozambique on Friday, 10 March 2006, to approve work plans
for the Pan-African Ministers of Public Service and Administration's programme
of action.
Ministers Fraser-Moleketi, Djamel Kharchi of Algeria, Athanase Matenda of
the DRC, Fikru Desalenge of Ethiopia and Lucas Jeremias of Mozambique are
members of a Ministerial Project Steering Committee, which was formed under the
auspices of the Pan-African Ministers of Public Service and Administration.
The Project Steering Committee was formed at the August 2005 ministerial
committee meeting in Johannesburg. The committee has representatives from all
five regions of the African Union (AU), i.e. Algeria, Benin, Ethiopia,
Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique.
The Ministers' programme is a continental governance and administration
initiative, driven by the AU to mainly enhance state capacity and public
service reform on the African continent.
The Ministers met in December 2005 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where they
adopted the Addis Ababa Declaration. In terms of the declaration, various
programmes - including skills development, anti-corruption, human resources
development, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge exchange, innovations - were
adopted for implementation.
