Free State Sports, Arts and Culture to celebrate Sesotho literature
centenary during Heritage Month, 21 Sept

Sesotho literature centenary celebration

18 September 2007

Hundred years ago history was made when the process of writing in Sesotho
began. Hundred years ago the late Mr Thomas Mofolo, who was a citizen of
Lesotho, placed pen on paper to express his thoughts and emotions in his own
indigenous language. Mr Mofolo can thus be defined as the precursor and a
pathfinder in terms of Sesotho literature.

This is a historical occasion worth celebrating. In the context of this
year's Heritage Month theme of "Celebrating Our Poetry", which has promotion of
literature at its core, we will be celebrating the Centenary of Sesotho
Literature as part of our Heritage Month programme and beyond.

The Centenary of Sesotho literature and the unveiling of the bust of Mr
Thomas Mofolo will take place as follows:

Date: 21 September 2007
Time: 10h00
Venue: Qibing/Wepener (Marquee tent behind municipal offices)

The family of Mr Mofolo, the traditional leadership of Khojane District in
Lesotho, various literature institutions in Lesotho and South Africa as well as
the local communities are expected to attend.

Your media house is cordially invited.
