The Bochabela String Orchestra, from the development section of the
Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will be performing for two weeks
throughout Belgium between 10 and 24 February.2009
This unique orchestra is made up of 17 children between the ages of 13 and
20, from the townships of Mangaung. The tickets were jointly sponsored by the
hosts in Belgium, the Violet String Orchestra and the Mangaung String Programme
Trust. They will perform popular African pieces in concert halls, on Belgian
television and in train stations. This popular ensemble is well known in
government and business circles for its energetic renditions of African
songs.
While ostensibly a tour to showcase the good news coming from Africa, it is
also a chance to raise awareness of the parent programmes expansion into the
Xhariep district of the Free State.
