Water and Environmental Affairs Social Responsibility Charity Golf Day

During her visit to the rural communities of Haartebeespoort early this year, Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa promised to come back within three months to fulfil her undertaking that she intends implementing various community projects which will serve as Ministerial Community Service or Outreach Programs.

It is on the basis of that promise that Minister Edna Molewa cordially invites you to the Water and Environmental Affairs Social Responsibility Charity Golf Day, which will be held at the Centurion Country Club on the 3 May 2013, on John Voster Drive in Highveld Centurion.

This is a fund-raising initiative, which will benefit four identified rural schools in the North West Province. Minister has committed to pilot the project in the North West Province before rolling it out to other areas. The following four schools have been selected as the initial beneficiaries: Ennis Thabong, Nantes, Noka Ya Lorato and Khulusa Primary Schools.

Providing water for the nation is still the core function of the Ministry, but it is also through initiatives such as this charity golf day, that the Minister would contribute towards the Government’s greater goals of creating employment and reducing poverty.

The focus will be on creating activities that the community can benefit from and those include; equipping schools, launching the food gardening program and sewing and knitting projects among others.

With this in mind and as part of its social responsibility, the Ministry will, through financial help from corporate sponsors, announce the plan to uplift the plight of these schools and enhance the quality of life of the communities in the area.

A direct benefit of these enterprises is to make the various commodities affordable for the learners and the communities. Furthermore, community members at these four locations will be trained and employed on the various projects at the schools, or in the vicinity of the chosen schools.

Some sponsors have already come on board and pledges as well as contributions will be announced at the gala dinner. Funds will also be raised during the Gala Dinner towards creation of Computer Labs at each school, with the relevant support, training and mentorship. There are other huge projects for schools and communities in the school vicinity that will be announced at the event.
