Spanish Language Training Programme graduation ceremony

31 March 2009

Media is invited to the graduation ceremony for the Spanish Language
Training project. Initiated between the Republic of South Africa and the
Kingdom of Spain, the project aims to reinforce tourism promotion and enforce
relations between both countries.

The implementation agents for the training project were the Tourism
Hospitality Education and Training Authority (THETA) and the International
University Mendendez Pelayo (UIMP) in Spain.

The intention of the Spanish Language Training Project is to equip
previously marginalised and disadvantaged South Africans in the mastery of the
Spanish language and culture in order to promote the exchange of information
and expertise in the tourism sector.

Learners from Gauteng, Limpopo and the Western Cape underwent training as
part of the project and as a result a number of students from the three
provinces will graduate on 3 April 2009, at an official ceremony to be held at
the Airport Grande Hotel in Gauteng.

The programme includes addresses by senior tourism representatives at the
Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, the Spanish Embassy, THETA and
the respective provinces.
