Release of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voter
participation survey

30 January 2009

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) will release the findings of
the IEC "Voter Participation Survey" on Wednesday, 4 February 2009, at
Gallagher Estate in Midrand.

The survey commissioned by the IEC was conducted by the Human Sciences
Research Council (HSRC) and assessed the extent to which the electorate and
prospective voters were ready to register and vote in the 2009 national and
provincial elections. This is the final report of the survey conducted in
2008.

The main objective of the 2008 survey was to assess public perceptions
regarding the upcoming national and provincial elections including the IEC's
ability to manage all aspects of the elections successfully. Furthermore, the
research was conducted in order to establish the state of readiness with regard
to voting behaviour in the country.
