The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission
(IEC), Mr Mosotho Moepya, said in Pretoria today, 24 May 2007 that the African
National Congress (ANC) won 8 of the 13 wards contested in the municipal ward
by-elections which took place yesterday. Of the remaining wards, three went to
the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), one to the Democratic Alliance (DA) and one to
an independent candidate. Voter turnout varied between 76,29% and 8,06% with an
average of 30,65%.
The new African National Congress (ANC) councillors are:
* Xoliswa Pia Mbasana in Ward 24 in Lukhanji, (Queenstown)

* Mhlopheki Alfred Mbele in Ward 9 in Ngwathe (Parys) Municipality�FS203 in the
Free State
* Terrymore Nene in Ward 31 in City of Johannesburg (Johannesburg) Municipality
Gauteng
* Sizwe Julias Mageza in Ward 1 in Umtshezi (Estcourt) Municipality�KZN234,
KwaZulu-Natal
* Mbhekiseni Ambrose Dlamini in Ward 5 in Ingwe [Creighton]
Municipality�KZN431, KwaZulu-Natal
* Isabel Mokgadi Malatsi in Ward 75 in eThekwini Metro (Durban Metro)
Municipality � ETH, KwaZulu-Natal
* Kgomotso Esther Kgaboesele in Ward 1 in Kgetlengrivier (Koster)

* Derick Antony Appel in Ward 1 in Theewaterskloof (Caledon)

Jacobus Johannes Naude of the Democratic Alliance is the new councillor in
Ward 20 in Mogale City (Krugersdorp) Municipality�GT481, Gauteng; while Johanna
Stoffels, an independent candidate, is the new councillor in Ward 7 in Saldanha
Bay (West Coast Peninsula) Municipality�WC014 in the Western Cape.
