Eastern Cape Roads and Transport increases licence and miscellaneous
fees

Eastern Cape increases licence and miscellaneous fees by 10% in
June 2009

26 March 2009

The current vehicle licence and miscellaneous (drivers’ license,
registration, number plates) fees in the province of the Eastern Cape will
increase by 10% as from 1 June 2009.

The decision has been published in the provincial Government Gazette this
month, following an executive council resolution. This will bring the province
in line with some of the other provinces.

This decision was further informed by the increase in South Africa’s
consumer price index, excluding mortgage rate changes for metro and other areas
which are used by the South Africa Reserve Bank for inflation target. The rate
was up to 10,3% year on year in December 2008 from 12,1% year on year in
November 2008.

The Consumer Price Index (CPIX) data showed that the CPIX hit 11,3% in 2008
from 6,5% in 2007 and the CPIX struck 11,5% from 7,1% in 2007

This means that:
* the fees for personalized and specific registration numbers will increase
from R2 577 to R2 835 and R741 to R819 respectively.
