Employee Wellness Programme
The Eastern Cape Department of Health's Employee Wellness Programme (EWP) is
on a mission of enhancing a healthy workforce. This was witnessed when they
conducted Employee Wellness Day at the Makana and Camdeboo Local Service Areas
(LSAs) in the Cacadu District with the theme "partnering with you in enhancing
a healthy workforce".
The purpose of the event was based on the philosophy that a physically,
psychologically and socially healthy workforce is a more productive workforce.
The Chief Director for Integrated Human Resources Management, Ms Nompumelelo
Maseko attended the event. She gave words of support and advised the employees
on how to live healthy lifestyles. Ms Maseko mentioned that the employees were
the brand of the department; therefore the department should always make sure
that each and every brand is alive.
During the event, nutritional, emotional fitness talks and reflexology
services were rendered to the employees. The employees were encouraged to
enhance the services in their areas to avoid stress and be able to face the
challenges they come across in the working environment. Officials in both LSAs
were very impressed with the service brought to them and mentioned that they
thought that wellness was only about physical well-being.
The department still has to introduce many areas to the deeper phase of the
programme in order for the department to deliver quality healthcare services.
"We need a healthy workforce, meaning we need healthy and happy employees," Ms
Maseko concluded.
