Provincial Consumer Rights Day celebrations

23 March 2007

The Department of Economic Affairs, Environment and Tourism (DEAET) in the
Eastern Cape will be hosting the Provincial Consumer Rights Day, on Thursday,
29 March 2007 at 10h00 at Thandanani Stadium, Matatiele.

The theme for this year "Say No to reckless credit extension, avoid debt
traps".

The main objective is to empower and promote confidence on consumers about
their rights and responsibilities, to make informed choices on how to avoid and
escape debt traps. From the business point if view, is to promote best trading
practices and fair business conduct.

2007 hopefully will be a year of action to realise the consumer wishes on no
more reckless lending, more information for people especially in rural areas in
their own language through National Credit Act passed in 2006 and the Consumer
Protection Bill to be passed in 2007.

Dignitaries expected to grace the celebrations include Honourable MEC for
Economic Affairs, Environment and Tourism, Mbulelo Sogoni, who will deliver the
message of the day and other stakeholders.

This is a community event not to be missed, coupled with entertainment and
refreshments for everyone.
